Police: 23 mile chase with drunk driver hit speeds over 100 mph | Crime
BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - A Toledo man faces seven charges, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated, after a high speed chase that stretched from Perrysburg south of Bowling Green.
The chase started when Perrysburg Township police say they saw the suspect exit I-75 southbound onto I-475, then stop his vehicle and back up onto I-75 and proceed southbound just after 4 a.m. Friday. Perrysburg Township Police began pursuit of the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Michael C. George, but lost him just south of SR 582. Perrysburg Township Police then notified the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who resumed the case just north of Bowling Green. According to Highway Patrol, George was traveling at over 100 miles per hour.
Police say George exited I-75 south onto US 6, where he hit stop sticks deployed by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department. Despite hitting the strips, George continued the chase at about 50 mph officers said.
When highway patrol was finally able to stop George’s vehicle on Emerson road south of Jerry City Road officers say he attempted to flee on foot before being arrested. Police say George registered a .113 blood alcohol content. George faces charges of felony fleeing and eluding, OVI, driving on a suspended license, providing false information, obstructing official business, speeding and a seatbelt violation.
